Moulis-en-Médoc

Moulis-en-Médoc is a dry red appellation in Médoc, Bordeaux. The dominant grapes are Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon. The key soils are gravel, clay-limestone, sand. The climate is characterized by maritime, less directly river-moderated than riverfront communes. Inland position and mixed soils make Moulis useful for studying how Médoc style shifts away from the most famous gravel croupes. Typical fruit: black plum, blackcurrant, red cherry. Other typical notes: cedar, earth, spice. Wines typically show medium-plus tannin, medium acidity, medium to medium-plus body. Ageing potential is moderate to high. One of the inland Médoc commune appellations. Often less globally famous than Pauillac or Margaux but important for regional completeness.
