Margaux

Margaux is a dry red appellation in Médoc, Bordeaux. The dominant grapes are Cabernet Sauvignon. The key soils are fine gravel, sand, clay-limestone in places. The climate is characterized by maritime, Gironde influence, slightly varied commune mesoclimates. Margaux's best gravel sites support Cabernet Sauvignon while varied soils can add aromatic nuance and supple texture. Typical fruit: blackcurrant, red cherry, plum. Other typical notes: violet, cedar, graphite, sweet spice. Wines typically show medium-plus to high tannin, medium-plus acidity, medium-plus body. Ageing potential is high. Southernmost of the four famous Médoc commune appellations in this MVP. Often described as perfumed, elegant, and refined.
